Hereford Half Marathon Marshal Points

Just spoken to Nicki Lloyd from the Hospice and have confirmed that Wye Valley Runners will look after the first water station see map below. We need plenty of help on this water station as there is a high density of runners needing water at the same time.. There is a marshal meeting at 9am at the Leisure Centre which I and a number of others will attend. The hospice are looking for any additional help we can give them to cover other course marshal points around the course. Please help if you can it's a really worthwhile cause.

Super 8 series (after 2 races)

Click to download the current standingsI must apologise for the delay in posting this update... The old memory seems to be going!

It's early days but the races will come thick and fast as we push into, what we hope, is a much less wet summer than 2012!!

Next up will be the Hereford Half Marathon on Sunday. As usual, a large contingent of Wye Valley are expected to take part so let's hope for perfect conditions......

Club Handicap Race

If there is sufficient interest we are looking to trial a free fun club handicap race on Wed 22nd May with the first runner leaving at 6.30pm. Course will be same as Summer 10k, staggered start times will be based on your finishing time in the Summer 10k. We had 37 runners so lots of times to work with. Based on Summer 10k the slowest runner would leave 30mins ahead of our fastest runner.
Please let us know whether you wish to participate so that we can work out your start time in advance of the evening.
Course would essentially be unmarshalled but if anyone would like to help on the night it would be appreciated.
If you did not run the Summer 10k and would like to participate please let us know in advance of the night so that we have time to work out your start time based on your race times in other events..

Couriers 5k Series

Hope your looking forward to the second race in the Couriers 5k series wed. A number of you have asked whether this race counts towards the club Summer Championships. Just to clarify only the first race in the series is included in the championship but thats no excuse for not doing it. I'll be there even though my calf muscles are still hurting from the Summer 10k!!!

Quiz Nite Blues

Michelle and I are trying to establish likely numbers for the Club Quiz and Disco Nite in support of Hereford Haven Breast Cancer, which is just 2 weeks away, as interest appears way down on last year. We currently have more quiz prizes than names on the list on the club notice board so looking on the bright side at least everyone who attends should be a winner!!
We are trying to establish whether this is because a lot of members are leaving a decision on attending until the last minute. It will be extremely helpful if you could confirm your interest to the event organisers asap as we will need to confirm catering numbers to Hereford Rowing Club in advance of the evening

Wye Valley May Day 10K results

The inaugural midweek 'running' of the Mayday 10k has been completed, and here, hot of the press, are the results.

An unexpectedly large field of runners turned out in perfect conditions for an early summer evening.

Click to download Mayday 10K resultsLeading from the outset, Kyran Hale of Severn A.C. was first across the line in a time of 34:05. Richard White from Halesowen A.C. and Luke Mason of Wye Valley finished in 34:30 and 34:40 respectively.

In the ladies competition Kathryn King (in a time of 41:03), running for the hosts, continue her excellent season completing the course more than two minutes ahead of her nearest rival, Daneen Hughes who came through in 43:40. Hereford Tri Club's Kylie Mansfield rounded out the podium placings with a time of 44:02.

In the team prize hosts Wye Valley picked up both trophies. Wine o'clock for those members tonight!

Check back soon for the second update of the Summer series competition.

Wye Valley Runners Mayday 10k Update

It looks like the weather should be perfect for the race tomorrow night. If it stays calm we may even hold race registration and the presentation ceremony outside. What a contrast to the New Years Day 10k!!

Just a reminder to WVR members that this is the 2nd race inthe Summer Club Championships. In all there are 13 races and you must run 8 to qualify for a position so this is an ideal race to start scoring some points.

We would also like to present the Winter Handicap Series medals at the presentation ceremony

As usual if you are not running and would like to help on race night we are always looking for volunteers to help with marshal duties or to encourage the runners which makes a huge difference..

Many thanks for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you all tomorrow night.

Mayday 10k: Race Update

Just to let newcomers to Hereford know that we will not be sign posting the location of the race start ie Hereford Rowing Club off the A49 Wye Bridge. We normally do this for Sunday Races when the roads are relatively quiet but it's not so easy to do this for an evening race. The rowing club is relatively easy to find , A49 northbound lane turn first left at traffic lights and race start will be signposted off Greyfriars Avenue. Southbound turn right at traffic lights just before bridge there is a filter system in operation.

Frosty 5 series - The Final Ranking

Click to download the Frosty 5 resultsThe final race in the Frosty 5 series has been run so without further ado here are the final rankings.

Mens

The top 3 places in this keenly contested competition have stayed the same for all the later races, although the point difference shrank significantly once the best best 5 results were taken into account. So, congratualtions are due to:

  1. Mike Fawcett (250 points)
  2. John Pullen (246 points)
  3. Adam Michmiok (242 points)

Ladies

In a similar vein the ladies table has seen the same 3 competitors atop the tree for the last few races. Only 1 point separated first and second place, and third place only a further 5 behind. The ladies finished as thus:

  1. Jane Rowlands (246)
  2. Kathryn King (245)
  3. Sandrine Gorin (240)

So, after a (very) long, hard winter the final results are in. Click the pic above to download full details.

Frosty 5 standings after Eastnor 7

Click to download Frosty 5 standingsWell it took a bit of time but the latest update of the Frosty 5 series is here.

No real movement at the top after the penultimate race, so it all comes down to the last race of the season.

Dependent on who runs on Sunday the first three places are very much up for grabs.

As ABBA once sang, 'the winner takes it all'
