Dinedor alternate run - 29th April

Click to enlarge pictureA week Monday will see the next alternate run, and it will start from Denco car park (HR2 6LR) at the usual time.

The distance will be around 12k / just over 7m with a couple of sharpe climbs (!), and you will need off road footwear as it is expected to be sticky in places.

Well done to all our runners who participated in the first series race last night there were some good performances particularly from our new members.

Revised Alternative Run Dates & Venues

Revised Alternative Run Dates & Venues 2013; During the Summer months WVR organises a number of optional Monday night club runs from a venue other than the Rowing Club. The revised dates are as follows: 29th April -Dinedor , 20th May- Rose Gardens, 17th June - Gord's 6 Practise Run ( New Course ), 15th July- Tillington & 19th August - Withington.
More detailed venue information will be posted closer to the run date and we always look to pool lifts.
Note that there will still be a normal club run as usual for those members that prefer not to travel.

Hereford Couriers 5k Series

For the benefit of all our new members see below details of Hereford Couriers 5K series. Entry Forms are downloadable off the hereford couriers web site.

Please remember that the 1st race only counts towards the Wye Valley Runners Summer Club Championship. The race represents excellent value particularly for those looking to a first race with an advance entry fee of just £3. It's a good way for new runners to get some race experience and put a marker down for future races. No pressure just focus on getting around the course. Lets see a big turnout.

To be run under ARC rules. Runners of all standards welcome.

 

Race 1............WEDNESDAY 10th APRIL

Race 2............WEDNESDAY 8th MAY               All starting at 7.15pm

Race 3............WEDNESDAY 12th JUNE

 

VENUE: HEREFORD LEISURE CENTRE, HOLMER ROAD, HEREFORD HR4 9UD

 

With free parking, changing, shower, toilet facilities and refreshments in the Bar.

 

COURSE: The same as has been used for many years, accurate, mainly flat, single loop, starting from the Leisure Centre and finishing on the eight lane athletics track.

 

COURSE RECORDS: M- Dan Robinson 14.24 [2004]; F- Lucy Wright 16.13 [2002]

 

PRIZES: Series prizes in most categories [5yr vets] depending on numbers, one prize per person. All three races need to be run to qualify. M and F team prizes, 3 per team, need not be same runners in each race.

 

RESULTS: Will be displayed in the Bar on the night and on www.herefordcouriers.com asap.

Easter Monday Run & Other News

There will be a club run as usual on Easter Monday almost certainly along the riverbank to Breinton Springs returning via the Orchards.
It was good to see such a large turn out for last nights club run and we would like to extend a very warm Wye Valley Runners welcome to all our new members and all those that have started joing our club runs. Unfortunately no cupcakes / flapjacks on offer last night.
Just a reminder that tickets are now on sale for the club quiz and disco nite on Fri 17th May in aid of Hereford Haven Beast Cancer priced at £12 each. Contact Michelle Williams or Mike Shaw if you wish to purchase tickets or add your name to the list on club notice board. In order to seat everyone for the quiz we are limited to 100 tickets & last years event sold out by early May.

As most of you already know their is a new venue and course for this year's event. As with the Summer 10K there will be a dedicated page shortly, but until then the form will be downloadable here.

Hopefully by the time the race rolls round we may actually have seen the sun!

Charity Quiz and Disco Nite

Wye Valley Runners Charity Quiz and Disco nite will be held on Friday 17th May at the Hereford Rowing Club. We plan to issue 100 tickets at £12 each. A veg/meat curry plus chips and rice is also included in the price. This year all profits will be donated to our charity of the year Hereford Haven Breast Cancer another very worthy cause.
Last years event was a tremendous success and sold out several weeks in advance of the quiz nite.
We will also hold a raffle of donated prizes and have already received a number of contributions. If you wish to donate a prize please contact a committee member.
If you would like to reserve tickets for the quiz nite please add your name to the list on the club notice board which will be posted on Monday or email mikelynn8@btinternet.com.

Darren's Dash 2013

Having run this last year I think the term 'testing' may be applied the event. So, if you fancy something a little different download the entry form and book your place now as competitors are limited to 100.

Alternative Run Dates 2013

During the Summer months WVR organises a number of optional Monday night club runs from a venue other than the Rowing Club. The dates for this years alternative runs are as follows: 15th April, 20th May, 17th June, 15th July & 19th August. As in previous years we welcome your suggestions , the only date allocated so far is May 20th which will be a practise run over the new Gord's 6 course.

Gloucester 20

Paul & Ralph continued with their marathon training program on Sunday by completing the Gloucester 20. The weather was very kind, dry, not very windy & cool, but not to cold.
Times: Robin Galpin 2.59 mins, Ralph Lloyd & Paul Watts 3.11 mins
The full results not due out till 26th March due to there web master being on holiday
Next marathon training run will be on Sunday 24th March, from Rowing Club at 9.00am, distance 15/16 Miles

Summer Handicap Race

We intend to hold a Summer Handicap race for club members on the evening of Wed May 22nd. The race will be held over a 5 mile course on the Great Western Way Cylce Path. Start times to be based on Winter 2012/13 Handicaps although other more recent results may be taken into consideration.
This is intended to add variation to the Summer running program and should be a fun evening, providing an opportunity to lead our elite club runners over the finish line.
More details will be issued in early May.

Winter Handicap Series

 
Just a reminder that there are just two races left in the Frosty 5 Winter Handicap series the Eastnor 7 and Shobdon 6. Mike Fawcett, John Pullen, Adam Michmiok, Stephen Flowers and Paddy Nugent lead the way in the mens race. Jane Rowlands, Kathryn King, Sandrine Gorien, Becki Ansfield and Gillian Bamber are the pace setters in the womens race.
There will be boxed gold,silver and bronze medals for first three men and ladies which will be presented at the Summer 10k.
