Apologies from Simon :(
A message from Simon Oliver:
Please could you put an apology on the club site from me over the lack of an alternative run on Monday.
First of all I had it in my diary as some one else's night. The main reason I did not come down was I had had a bit of an adventure in The Black Mountains over the Wend with my dog (Archie ) , who decided to go off on his own little adventure on Saturday lunchtime and was not back in harness till Sunday afternoon .
I walked something like 30k with family and friends trying to find him. I don't know if you are a pet person but the anxiety this created was considerable.
Thank you and see you soon.
Simon
Yes Simon, I think there are a few of us who can relate to the anxiety that our furry little friends can cause!!! However, he's back safe and sound, and that's what matters.....
Ross River Run invitation
Click to download detailsThis one was brought to my attention by Gavin during our event last week.
In August, over the Bank Holiday weekend, our friends in Ross will be arranging a run from Monmouth to Ross, and they have sent out a general invite to other runners. This will not be a formal race as it is intended to generate feedback and interest, which may in turn lead to the event becoming an actual race.
If anyone is interested in a long trail run that offers something a little different to our normal routes please contact Andrew Person at the email address within the attached document. Alternatively, let Alan know if you're interested and he will feedback to Andrew. Once again, this is just a 'toe in the water' run so club kit will not be necessary.
Wye Valley Handicap Stakes Results
Based on your feedback it seems that the Wye Valley Handicap Stakes was a great success. There was a lot of speculation on the tow path as to who would finish first. Sheridan and Michelle held onto their lead all the way to the tow path. Sheridan who suffered a bad knee injury at Dinedor last year which she thought had ended her running career managed to find a finishing spurt to take first place. Sandrine Gorin continues to put in strong performances finishing 3rd lady overall.
C hris Head shattered his pb to win the men’s race. Andrew Blackman put in a great performance to finish second and Mark Killeen madCe significant progress through the field to finish 3rd.
There were many good performances on the night with the majority of runners improving on their Summer 10 k times which is a little surprising as you would think that times would be better in a normal race situation.
There was a 7 min spread between the first and last runner and just 3 min’s separated the last 17 runners.
Results are displayed in finishing order, Summer 10k times where available are shown in brackets:
1.Sheridan Butterfield 57.18 (63.03); 2.Michelle Williams 57.23; 3. Chris Head 44.53; 4. Andrew Blackman 45.46; 5. Mark Killeen 42.54;, 6. Paul Kemp 44.03 (45.30); 7. Antony Evans 48.17; 8. Craig Rees 43.46 (44.56) ;9. Steven Flowers 38.49 (39.52); 10. Sam Clark 44.15 ;11. Kevin Artus 41.21 (42.09) ;12.Sandrine Gorin 45.28(45.32); 13. Ralph Lloyd 47.28 ;14. Click to download the fileOk, it took a while as I had to check through manually for the Wye Valley members who were missing an entry under club, but I think everyone is now accounted for... until I hear differently!!

Super 8 series after 3 races
Click to download the current positionsIt's early days in the Super 8 series but the deluge of races in the next few weeks will shape the competition ahead.
In the mens division Luke Mason's early season form has seen him collect maximum points from each of the 3 races to date. Meanwhile, consistant running from Hedd Jones and Craig Rees sees them occupying second and third respectively.
Nikki Tyler has laid down the challenge in the ladies competition, dropping only 10 points over the first events. Lynne Compton is close behind in second place, but expect Kathryn King, currently third, to mount a serious assault over the next couple of races.
Next up... Crocodile 8!
Update: It appears that some members were not listed as Wye Valley so I have missed them from the results. I will have to go through the full results and pull out our runners manually. Please bare with me as this may take a while but I will issue an update asap. Cheers, Alan

Fantastic Effort Today - Hospice Half Marathon
Just a fantastic effort by everyone in the club who supported the Hospice Half Marathon today what a worthwhile cause. It seemed like just about everyone in WVR was involved either running or marshaling.
Great job on the first water station and on the Grandstand Road Crossing.
We had so many runners and great performances particularly from our new members that it's difficult to single out individuals but Luke Mason your a real star a fantastic performance and just reward for efforts to win this event. Kathryn King another tremendous performance to finish first lady.
For your enjoyment I have posted about 80 race pictures which you can view by clicking the flickr link on the web site.

Hereford Half Marathon Marshal Points
Just spoken to Nicki Lloyd from the Hospice and have confirmed that Wye Valley Runners will look after the first water station see map below. We need plenty of help on this water station as there is a high density of runners needing water at the same time.. There is a marshal meeting at 9am at the Leisure Centre which I and a number of others will attend. The hospice are looking for any additional help we can give them to cover other course marshal points around the course. Please help if you can it's a really worthwhile cause.
