Cross Country Captain
Wye Valley Runners wish to thank Paul Bouston for the tremendous job he has done as Cross Country Captain. During Paul's tenure the club have seen a resurgency of interest in Cross Country running and both the men's and women's teams have enjoyed considerable success. Needless to say we are going to miss Paul who has stepped down to focus on his race day running and will still be available to help in other ways.
This means we are looking for someone to take over the role of Cross Country Captain in time for the start of the Summer Series. If you are a club member and have a passion for Cross Country running this could be the role for you. If you are interested please contact a committee member. In the meantime Mike Shaw will be acting Cross Country Captain until a replacement is found.

Frosty Winter 5 update (after 8 races)
Click the image to download the fileWhat are the scores on the doors?!....
Almost at the finish line now, only two races remain for competitors to improve on their totals. The Eastnor Magnificent 7 and Shobdon offer an excellent opportunity to really gather some extra points, so get you entries in now.
As it stands the top of the mens leaderboard remains identical to the last race as none of the leaders ran in the Muddy Woody. However, Kathryn King's superb display earning her 25 points and second place in the series.
Both competitions will certainly go down to the wire.
Muddy Woody Thankyou's
Wye Valley Runners wish to thank all the runners for continuing to support this event , the race sponsors , the many marshals, and helpers whose hard work makes this race possible and especially the local residents for their cooperation and assistance.
A few individuals that deserve a special mention:
Harry Franklin- excellent hand made trophies.
Les Chamberlain & Ian Matthews - we'd be lost in the woods without them.
Barrie for once again providing the caravan.
Mervyn for organising marquees and toilets
Martin Roche for the generator we'd have had cold drinks without it.
The Refreshments team Ralph, Sarah & Penny for keeping us all going
The Results Team - John Holdroyd and Sue Pretty
A very big thankyou to Dave and Susannah Sherwood for organising entries , registration etc

As the picture attests Sarah Bowring has been busy in her Flapjack Factory. At £1 per bag it represents amazing value, and the sumptous taste will be a welcome reward after the hard slog of the Muddy Woody.
All proceeds will go to The Haven, so not only will you be enjoying the delicious chewyness of these treats you'll also be supporting our charity of the year.
Happy hunting!!
Final call for Muddy Woody marshals
With Sunday fast approaching we are putting out a final call for volunteers to marshal at the Muddy Woody... The more marshals we have on the day, the better!!!
Anyone planning on helping out will need to assemble at the start line no later than 9.30am. At this time you will be given your job for the day... and with temperatures on the rise the Met Office currently shows no rain for the weekend, and if we're lucky, some sun too!
We look forward to seeing you all on Sunday.

Therefore, to celebrate our impending competiton the new Muddy Woody website page is now live. All future race information surrounding the event will now be posted here. However, details of marshalling, club arrangements, etc. will continue to be posted with the news section.
Additionally please see the message below from Dave Sherwood with regard to helpers on Saturday:
On Saturday we will be meeting at 12.00 AM to set up the registration area and mark the course. As usual, many hands make light work and if you can spare a couple of hours to help it will be much appreciated.
On the subject of carparking, we also need a team to help direct drivers to the designated areas. If you are running then it will be appreciated if you can collect your number early and then help in this capacity.
Further updates regading the race will be posted on the club web-site during the next week.
Regards
Dave
Wye Valley Brewery to sponsor the Muddy Woody
Click the logo to visit the Wye Valley Brewery website. It is my great pleasure to announce that this year's Muddy Woody will have a new sponsor in the form of Wye Valley Brewery.
Already a favourite tiple of many of our club members the brewery has agreed to provide category prizes for both male and female in the form of gift packs. The gents will enjoy the deep stout and lucious Butty Bach, while the ladies can indulge in the HPA and, my personal favourite, Golden Ale.
I think you'll agree this adds an extra incentive to be first home in your classification! So 'Wye' not click the logo on the left and visit their wonderful website to see the full range of ales, including the limited run of Dorothy's Heroes.

Frosty Winter 5 series after 7 races
Click to download Frosty 5 results Updated: results now included amended entries for Shaun Hoyes
Sunday's excursion to Presteigne brought to an end the latest winter cross country series, and with it the seventh race of our Frosty Winter 5 series.
Only three races now remain for our intrepid members to gain the points which will count towards their final tally, and at this point podium places are still up for grabs!
Mike Fawcett currently sits a top the Men's competition, closely followed by John Pullen and Adam Michmiok respectively. Indeed, Adam's excellent performance at Presteigne has seen him knock out one of his previous lower scores, and in an 8 point swing reduce the gap from John to 2 points.
Meanwhile, the ladies event is beginning to take shape as more competitors reach the minimum five races required to be eligible for the overall prizes. Jane Rowland's superb season is reflected by the fact she currently holds first place from Sandrine Gorin, who in her debut season has already helped the ladies team retain the winter XC championship. Rounding out the trio at the top is Becki Ansfield for whom the word 'consistant' was seemingly invented.
It will interesting to see how the scoring is affected over the remaining races, where there is a possibility of fewer Wye Valley entrants at each event. The potential to increase your points haul could see some tactical choices being made by our more competitive members!
