Frosty 5 update - Race 2 Croft Castle

The latest update to the Frosty 5 handicap series has been performed and the results attached.

It's early days, but the running (pun intended) is being made by Mike Fawcett and Paula McGivern in the mens and ladies competitions respectively.

Be aware these are provisional results as several new runners have yet to be allocated a handicap. I'll update again once Mike returns from his travels. Until then here are the files:

Frosty 5 winter series after 2 races

Croft Castle XC photos & results

Well the race was as hard as ever, but the glorious sunshine certainly made the trip worth the effort.

As usual there was a fantastic turnout from the Valley with several new runners getting their first taste of the cross country league. Both men and ladies teams put in excellent performances to claim second place in both competitions. After 2 races it looks rather tight at the top. Click the link below for the full result spreadsheet, and them peruse the photos above, provided courtesy of John Holdroyd.

Concern Universal Santa Run

The keen eyed among you will notice the website has gained another tab in the header of our site. These pages will be reserved for support and partnerships with charities and local organisations.

As such, the first entry regards the forthcoming Santa Run on Sunday 9th December. One of our illustrious members is organising the event and is hoping some of us can help out (I will be attending as a Santa!).

Bousty's Booster - Speedwork on Wednesday 7th Nov

For those who would like to shave some time off the forthcoming Cross Country races Paul Bouston will be conducting one of his increasing famous speed sessions around the Bishop's meadow.

They will consist of 800m reps, and runners of all abilities are welcome. This is about improving yourself and not racing against other members of the club, so please do not feel that these sessions are beyond you.

There will of course be the usual club run for everyone who fancies a more sedentary amble around Hereford.

London Marathon 2013 Club Draw

You've been waiting anxiously 6 months only to be faced with Elvis staring up at you with a big 'Sorry' printed across the London Marathon magazine. Now what are supposed to do next April, you ask?...

Well have no fear as all is not lost!!!

On Monday, December 1st the club will have its annual draw for the London Marathon places that we receive. So if you've received a rejection slip now is the time to let Matt Taylor know that you wish to be considered for the draw (or use the Contact page form to notify Alan Lewis). The only stipulations are:

  1. You have been a member of the club for a year or more
  2. You did not receive a place through the club draw last year
  3. You have a rejection slip / magazine from the marathon organisers

So, get those notifications in and start preparing for one of the marque events in the athletics calendar.

Alternative start times for weekday runs

Becki Ansfield raised an issue during the open forum at the AGM for which we would be grateful for some feedback.

Work or family commitments sometimes mean that some club members find it extremely difficult to make the 6.15pm start time. Therefore, Becki suggested a secondary start time for those who can only make a later time during the evening. Another option is a later time on a night which does not currently have a club run.

If you are in a similar position, or would like to just put some further ideas into the hat, please could you use the Contact page to submit your thoughts. The comments will then be collated together so we can take a look at the options.

AGM Awards

Traditionally the AGM serves as the perfect forum to present the iclub's awards, and this year was no different.

First up was the the Best Alternative Monday Night Run. Conducted by a show of hands the Bell at Tillington gained a narrow victory over Fownhope, earning Brian Symonds a welcome half dozen bottles of local cider.

Brian stepped up once more to receive the Most Improved Male Runner prize, while Ros Lloyd garnered the Most Improved Female award in absentia. Voted for by their peers within the running club Sarah Bowring and Alan Lewis collected the Female and Male Mighty Oak awards.

Finally, the top 3 in both the ladies and mens Super 8 series received vouchers for Clubsport. The final finishing places in the competition were:

Mens

  1. John Pullen
  2. Alan Lewis
  3. Stuart Moore

Ladies

  1. Becki Ansfield
  2. Annie Ransome
  3. Jan Edwards

Marathon Mentions – Becky and Paul

Two of our club alumni completed marathons over the previous weekend.

Rebecca Davies took part in the Dartmoor Marathon finishing in a time of 4hr 7mins. Not only a great time, but enough to secure the 2nd senior female placing. An outstanding performance I’m sure you will all agree.

In what seems an ever recurring feeling of déjà vu Paul Watts boarded his own personal National Express again, this week taking in the Preston Marathon. In appalling conditions Paul manage his second best time of the year, finishing in 4hrs 31mins 44secs. He now moves onto 244 completed marathons, with only 6 left to reach 250 the champagne has been put on ice to chill.

Frostbite 5 Handicap Series : Race 1 Scores

The early pacemakers in the handicap series are:

Men: 1. Mike Fawcett, 2 John Pullen 3. Paddy Nugent

Ladies: Kathryn King, 2. Paula McGiven, 3. Sandrine Gorin

Frostbite 5 Handicap Series Race 1 Scores

Selected races are all the Herefordshire Winter League Cross Countries, Mortimer Forest 10, New Years 10k, Muddy Woody 6, Eastnor 7 & Shobdon 6. Club handicaps will be applied to the actual race result and once the handicap results are known 50 pts will be awarded for the first Wye Valley man and lady, 49 for 2nd etc. You only need to complete 5 of the 10 races to qualify, this allows for the fact that a lot of club members will be involved in marshaling and organising 3 of these races. Your 5 best scores will count.

In order to keep things as fair and simple as possible club handicaps are based on 2012 10K’S : NYD, Summer 10k, Swansea Bay and Time Trial performances or your result in first or second XC of the Winter Series.

Thanks to Alan Lewis for all his work on the spreadsheet, no easy task.
