Muddy Woody Presentations

All being well race awards and trophy presentations will be made between 12.30/12.45pm. This is a very busy race with groups of runners crossing the finish line together. Please help the finish line marshals ensure you get an accurate result by displaying your race number as you cross the finish line. Please do not pass through the finish line funnel a second time..

Muddy Woody News

Yes the weather gods are giving us lots of headaches right now but the race is still on for Sunday. Whilst heavy rain is forecast for Friday the situation is set to improve Saturday with a few light showers and believe it or not we may even see the SUN (HOORAY) on Sunday. Please be advised it will be better to take the Dormington road to Haugh Woods although likely some surface water there too.. Please park on the firm forest track as directed by our parking marshals. Please be advised that the common is water logged so should be avoided if possible. Please try to arrive as early as possible as you may be parked some way from the registration area. We will continue to post updates during the week as we receive additional information.
Have a great race everyone.

Countdown to Muddy Woody Begins

A detailed race day info pack will be issued shortly. The race set-up team will be meeting in Haugh Woods at midday Saturday . If you can offer some assistance it will be much appreciated. Tasks include course clearing and marquee erection. We are also looking for marshals to help on race day particularly with car parking. If you are running on the day and register early any help you can give particularly with parking will be appreciated. It's too early to say what the weather will be like with any certainty but please be advised that if in doubt its better to drive to Haugh Woods using the Dormington to Mordiford Road than using the Hampton Bishop Road which is prone to flooding.

We would also welcome any race photos on Sunday which we can add to our photo library on flickr.

Bill Berry Book: Raising Money for Hospice

"I have written a book about my lifetime’s involvement with sport covering my 50 years as a competitor and 35 years as a coach.
Over the years many people have asked me how I became involved in coaching but the idea for the book was originally suggested by a cycling pal – Alan Hill . We often talked about our various sporting experiences and Alan used to say to me “ you should write a book about your athletic experiences and trips “ but I thought no more about it. However a couple of years ago Alan was diagnosed with cancer and eventually passed away in St Michael’s Hospice. Then sometime last year I read about a cyclist who had written a book about his life of cycling to raise funds in memory of a friend who had died in similar circumstances to Alan. So I decided to write my book and I am selling it to raise money for St Michael’s Hospice in Herefordshire. All the profits from the sales will go to the Hospice and your help in supporting this very worth while cause would be much appreciated.
If you would like a copy please send a cheque, payable to me, for £6.20 ( inc postage ) to 28 St Andrews Close, Moreton on Lugg ,Herefordshire HR4 8DD together with your name and address.
If you prefer you can collect a copy from me for £5".

Herefordshire Cross Country League/Presteigne Results

Sunshine (mostly) welcomed runners to today's Presteigne Crosss Country. A tough course for men and women - just over 7 miles for the men and over 5 for the women. The men's turnout overall was down almost 30% on last year for reasons not entirely clear at this point. But this doesn't reduce the strength of the team victories for Croft Ambrey Women's team (their first for 20 years!) and for Hereford Couriers taking the men's team prize having led the way all season. Our congratulations to them all.

Wye Valley men's team still picked up silver with the women's team picking up bronze. Some fantastic individual performances:

  • Jan Edwards - first women's vet 55 for the series
  • Christine Motteram first women's vet 70 for the series
  • John Pullen first male vet 45 for the series
  • Bryan Symonds first male vet 70 for the series
  • Harry Franklin first male vet 75 for the series

Our thanks to Presteigne Pacers for their hospitality today and to Mike Blenkinsop and Clive Rowberry for so efficiently sorting out the league admin.

Unfortunately for all horses reading this, entries are now closed for the annual Man versus Horse marathon on June 14th at LLanwrtyd Wells . Happily entries for people are still open but filling fast. If so let Paul know on Facebook ar at the club in the next week .
