Kinnersley XC Report (UPDATED with Results)

Click to download resultsWell a very big thank you is due to Croft Ambrey for putting on such an excellent race last night. It's tough putting on evening races particularly those remote from your home location.
It was another excellent turnout from the local clubs and it seems that Summer XC is becoming increasingly popular.
There was another excellent turnout from WVR with a quick ckeck of the results page showing we had 43 finishers. With 3 men plus 1 lady counting to the team places we managed 1st and 3rd teams an excellent performance.
For the WVR men James Richards won the race in fine style followed by Mr consistency John Pullen (3rd), Greg Wood (6th), Stuart Moore (9th), James Davies (14th) and Martin Whitefoot (17th)
Yet again there were some great performances from the ladies with Becki Davies (40th) finishing 1st lady she just gets better and better, Laura Tootell (51st) 3rd lady, Daneen Hughes (64th), Niki Tyler (72nd), Becki Ansfield (82nd) and the rapidly improving Danca (87th).
Sorry to those whose names I have missed from the list but very well done everyone

Closing Date Approaches for Herefordshire Sprint Triathlon

Entries for the Herefordshire Sprint Triathlon close on Thursday June 20th. No entries later than this date can be accepted. It's a great local opportunity to have a go at a Triathlon over a relatively modest distance.
The event takes place at Lucton School near Leominster on Sunday June 30th. A great event for beginners or people who are looking for an old-fashioned super sprint. Entries at www.entrycentral.com
If you don't fancy doing the swim or bike the organisers accept relay entries.
The 400 yd 16 length swim is in Lucton School Pool, the bike ride is 10 miles of undulating road around a loop course taking in Yarpole. The 3 mile run is a testing undulating course on country lanes.

The Great Narth Run... you read that right!

Click to visit websiteThe club has received word of a new 10K distance race in Mounmouthshire. Here is the communique from the organisers:

The Great Narth Run. Yes, you read that right – “The Great NARTH Run”. Perhaps not quite as grand as the half-marathon in Newcastle upon Tyne with a similar name that every runner has heard of, but we’re hoping for great things nonetheless.

It’s all going to happen on Sunday 23 June 2013 in Maryland Woods near The Narth - a fun run for everyone aged 9 and over; a 5K race for over 11’s; and a 10K race for the over 15’s. This will be the first year the event has been held; the intention is that it will become an annual event. The aim is to provide a series of races that will appeal to runners of all ages and abilities, and provide a safe and enjoyable day out for runners and spectators alike. All the races are off road on forest tracks.

And to keep everyone fed and watered before, during, and after the races, there will be hot and cold drinks, bacon rolls, and a BBQ.

For details and to enter, please go to www.thenarthhall.com – or email greatnarthrun@gmail.com.

Alternative Run from Fownhope Tonight

There will be an alternative run organised by Ian Matthews on Monday 17th June starting from Fownhope Football Ground at 6.15pm. Ian says to be aware that there is currently a lot of deep grass on the course so it will be heavy going in places.
This run also provides an opportunity to trial the new Gord's 6 course with the race itself scheduled for Sat 13th July. The grass will be mown before the race.
All proceeds from the Gord's 6 race go to local charities and this year the nominated charity is Hereford Haven Breast Cancer a truly worthwhile cause so please try to support the race by participating or marshaling. Paul Bouston is the principal race organiser.
There will also be the usual club run from the Rowing Club at 6.15pm for those that prefer not to travel.

Tot Momento Selected for Breinton 10

This year the momento for finishing the Breinton 10 will be a Tot glass bearing race name and apple design. If these are well received we will change the apple design in each subsequent year. We are giving the race a apple theme because Breinton is well known for it's apple orchards.
Harry Franklin is kindly hand carving apple themed trophies for the winning male and female.

Darren's Dash is upon us.. are you ready for the beast?

Click to visit event pageThere are only a few days to go until Darren's Dash 2013.

To call it a testing little run would be an understatement, and those who persevere will certainly know they've been for a run!... this race is a must if you have never done it before.

Entry on the day is available, and hopefully the weather will brighten for the weekend... and, as is usual for races in Herefordshire, the post run cake makes it all worth while.

Click the pic to visit the event page, and download your entry form now.

Kinnersley XC details

Click to download the race detailsCourtesy of Mike Blenkinsop we now have the pre reace details for the forthcoming Kinnersley XC,

Further details are included in the pdf, so click the pic to download the file. However, there are a few extras points to note:

  • Please do not use the included postcode for your GPS as it will send you to the wrong place.
  • Remember that the race venue is a working farm and strict safety regulations apply. Please keep away from all farm equipment and listen carefully to the safety warnings that will be announced by the race organiser.

See you all in the orchards!!!

Swansea Bay 10k

We are for the eigth consecutive year looking to organise a coach trip to the Swansea Bay 10k followed by the now customary meal at the Bar Gallois. The running club subsidise the cost of coach and fees are usually held at £5 per person. Last year the three course meal cost £13,
The race itself will be held on 22nd Sept. It's an ideal opportunity to race on a very flat course in a field of 3000/4000 runners. The race usually attracts elite kenyan runners.
You can enter the race on line using the Swansea Bay 10k web site.
We will place a poster on the notice board in the next few days to ascertain the level of interest this year.
This really is a good value day out with the running club and last year 13 club pb's were recorded on this course.

Fownhope Alternative Run - Monday 17th June

There will be an alternative run organised by Ian Matthews on Monday 17th June starting from Fownhope Football Ground at 6.15pm. Ian says to be aware that there is currently a lot of deep grass on the course so it will be heavy going in places.
This run also provides an opportunity to trial the new Gord's 6 course with the race itself scheduled for Sat 13th July.

Summer Races

A really busy program of races coming up so plenty to keep our race addicts occupied. On Wed we have the final race in the Couriers 5K series , Sun 16th Darren's Dash, Wed 26th Kinnersley XC, Sun 30th Hereford Tri at Lucton School, Wed July 10th Westhope XC, Sat July 13th Gord's 6 new Fownhope Course, Wed 24th Shobdon 6 XC.
The Super 8 Club Championship series is proving very popular again this year and you need to complete at least 8 of the 13 nominated races to qualify. Your eight best scores only will count to your final league position. Races left in the series include Darren's Dash, Gord's 6, Credendill Canter, Breinton 10 and all the Summer XC races.
If you are not planning to race the club organised races ie Gord's 6 & Breinton 10 we are always looking for volunteers to help with marshal duty

Super 8 series after Race 6

Click to download current placingsOnly two more races to go before the totals start to count for real!.....

In the meantime there's been a lot of movement after a week of The Magic Roundabout and the Aconbury XC.

Sitting a top the leaderboard in the ladies is Nikki Tyler who has, to date, amassed a total of 283 points. Closing in after a couple of superb performances is Becky Davies. Three straight 50 point scores have put her on 248 points. In the final placing spot is Laura Tootell on 242 points. Consistant scoring will certainly see her in the mix come the final stages of the competition.

In the mens event Luke Mason still leads on 248 points. However, John Pullen has closed the gap to just 1 point. These two will most likely face off for first and second respectively... or could a dark horse crash the party? In third is Craig Rees with 231 points. If he can continue to perform consistantly bronze could well be in his grasp.

Next up.... Darren's Dash... this one will sort the pack out!!

Aconbury XC (Updated with results)

Click to download resultsMany thanks to Mervyn and Bousty who put in a tremendous amount of work to make this race possible. Many thanks also to Mike Blenko and Clyve for officiating. What a tough fantastic scenic course which is my particular favourite on the XC circuit. This year we were also treated to a bluebell extravaganza. Special thanks also to all the marshals who help make this event possible. It was another  incredible turnout.
