Rotherwas Cross Country Results

Thanks to our pals at the tri club for putting on the annual 3 lap blast around the river paths and also our thanks to Mike B , Nikki T and team for timing  and results

Conditions were pretty good all round and a strong Wye Valley turnout paid dividends.

Laura Tootell finishing third women showed her improving form - just half a minute ahead of Clare Sims with Becki Ansfield and Lara Harley taking up  third and fourth. Their excellent performance was rewarded with a joint first position on the day. Can they catch Croft Ambrey women's team at the next meeting at much hillier Presteigne in a few weeks?

The men managed to take first slot by some margin - but also steal the lead on Maldwyn Harriers for the seasonal prize. With only 6 points between us and them we have all to play for at the final race in Feb at Presteigne.

Sam Mayglothling charged home as first Wye Valley man with Christian Jones only 19 seconds behind him and a chasing Steven Flowers only 20 seconds later. Jeremy Jehan recorded a strong 4th Wye Valley place to ensure the team award in 41.15

Muddy Woody - call for marshals

Following a really successful New Years Day 10k, next up is our Blue Riband event, Muddy Woody, on Sunday February 11th. We need even more marshals and helpers for this one. If you aren't running the race, can you please put yourselves forward, or volunteer a friend or member of your family to help. If you don't want to marshal, there are plenty of other jobs that you can do. We want to make this the best Muddy Woody ever and you can help make that happen. Names to Race Director Dave Sherwood, any one of the committee, or leave a comment on the Facebook page.

Training Plans

I have produced three generic training plans, marathon, half marathon and 10k aimed at races in early April. They are in Outlook Calendar format, so that you can adapt them for your own specific requirements. They incorporate the planned speed sessions that will be taking place on the track and elsewhere. When I find an easy way of including the plans on the website, I will post them. In the meantime, if you are interested, let me know and I will send them to you by e-mail.

New Year Training

The first week of 2018 will see most runners either getting over the New Years Day 10k or the after effects of the festivities. So it will be a case of getting back into some easy running before stepping things up in the next few weeks. However, for the serious athletes, the hard work starts on Wednesday with your favourite session of 400s, having missed the planned pre-Xmas session because of the weather. Wednesdays club run is on the website and subsequent runs, together with all of the speed sessions up to the end of March, will be posted shortly. I will also, as promised, post 3 training plans for the next three months, for those planning a spring marathon, half marathon or 10k.

Happy running in 2018

Coaching seminar - Monday 4th December 2017

To all Wye Valley Running club members.

Further to my earlier post, I have arranged an informal session, for all interested, after training at the Rowing Club next Monday at 7.30. After a quick overview of the benefits of coaching, we can then discuss how we might develop some group and individual training programmes and tailor the speed sessions to better meet your aims. Don't worry if you can't make this session, I will repeat it in a few weeks. To get an idea of numbers can you e-mail me at martinflowers@sky.com if you are attending on Monday.
