Wye Valley Coaching

Wye Valley Runners coaching

Over the last couple of years, we have been trying to provide those runners who want to do something more than a club run with an alternative speed session, designed to improve their running performance. These sessions, although reasonably well supported, have not been designed as part of a structured training programme. The Committee has agreed that these sessions should continue and we are working with other athletic clubs, such as the Hereford Tri Club, to share coaching resources and the cost of hiring facilities like the track. There will now be a track session every Wednesday over the winter period.

As you know, I have now taken over as Chairman of WVR and one of my aims is to get more people in the club involved in coaching. However, in the short term I will remain as the coaching lead on the Committee, until other people either come forward or are persuaded to get involved. I will still design and take as many of the speed sessions as I can, but I would also be interested in working with some members on a one-to-one or small group basis to help with the entirety of their training plans. In order to gauge interest, can you drop me an e-mail if you would be interested in this approach. I will then arrange an initial meeting for us all to discuss how it will work.

Midlands and Nationals XC

Its the time of year again when two of the biggest Cross country races in calendar are upon us, and its time for you to put your names down and participate in a fantastic event.

Not just for the elite this race is open to everyone of all standards.

The Midlands is at Nottingham on Saturday January 27th

http://www.midlandathletics.org.uk/page20.html

The Nationals is back to the birthplace of cross country in London on the iconic Parliament Hill on Saturday 24th February

http://www.englishcrosscountry.co.uk/the-national-cross-country-championships/venue/

Lets try and get as many people as possible and fly the Wye Valley Runners flag. I will start collecting names in December.

The club will pay for the entry fee so all we ask is that once your name is down mark it down and commit as best you can.

Due to the increased popularity of the XC League and the subsequent extra traffic, it has been deemed necessary to park runners' vehicles in a nearby field separate from the National Trust car park.

Please follow car parking marshals' instructions.

There will still be a car parking charge of £3 for each vehicle imposed by the National Trust. This will not apply to National Trust members.

Car sharing, as much as is possible, would make sense.

Important Club Run Changes

There will no longer be updates about the club run on facebook.

All club runs will be added to the training planner, with a map so everybody knows where to go.

Please check the website so you know the route, it is getting dark in the evenings now and with poor visibility we don't want to lose anyone.

http://www.wyevalleyrunners.co.uk/training-calendar/

A smaller website is available on the homepage

Over the next few weeks the club would like members to volunteer to be group leaders helping those within the group maintain a pace and not get lost.

Speed sessions will continue with the same structure but these should be used as part of a structured training plan

RACE  4  -  SHOBDON  COURT

WEDNESDAY  26th JULY

The postcode for the race venue is HR6 9LZ , but you are probably better off just using this as a means of getting to Shobdon. There will be Croft Ambrey R.C. signs pointing you to the race HQ when you near the village. If you are approaching from the west your sat nav will try to take you up a drive which is blocked by electronically operated gates.

The conclusion of the race will be followed by a presentation of the individual and team awards for the series. Mike will endeavour to work out the results and details as quickly as possible, so please be patient and hang around to applaud and support your team mates who may have won awards.
