Matt's charity challenge

Click to open fileAs some of you may know Matt Taylor is running this year's London Marathon in aid of charity. Throughout the coming months he will be organising and/or participating in various events to hopefully raise £1800 through his fundraising efforts.

First up is a plan to take a group of non-runners and get them to a point where they are able to complete a 5K run. His 'Counch to 5K' programme is semi-reliant on word of mouth, so if anyone knows somebody who has considered entering an event please pass Matt details onto them. The attached flyer provides the necessary details (click the pic on the left).

Click to open fileNext up is his 'Onesie' Quiz Night at the Rowing Club. Tickets will be £10, and the soiree will take place on February 22nd at 7pm. Onesie attire is optional! Once again click the pic (this time on the right) for full details.

As and when his other fundraising events are set in stone they will be posted within the Charities section on the website.

Christmas Curry evening - confirmation of attendance

Please could anyone who put their name on the list for the curry night, but cannot now attend, please let Brian Symonds know.

If you're not coming to the Xmas meal on Saturday, and do not think you'll see Brian before the curry night, please use the feedback form on the Memberships & Contacts page to pass on the information.

(Update: my deepest apologies to Brian for misunderstanding what he asked me to post originally. You may be sure I have severely repremanded myself!)

FUN Duathlon Results

Well, the weather held for the duration of the event and I think we can safely say that all those involved had a most enjoyable morning.

Strain and stress were not on the agenda as our very relaxed group of competitors took on a 5 mile run followed by a 10 mile bike ride. Gentlemanly agreements were in effect as four entrants crossed the line together to collect their delicious biscuits, supplied by the very talented Becky Davies.

Click the pic on the left to 'embiggen' the results, and the picture on the right for the Flickr feed.

And now a word from our sponsor:

Many thanks to Alan Lewis and Gavin Jones for minding the bikes and timekeeping today. Also to Becky and Lucy for supplying home baked biscuits and mince pies which were quickly devoured at the finish line.
The weather was brilliant for this event and I've had good feedback from everyone that participated, Photo shows us all in good spirits at the start line with just a 5 mile run and 10 mile bike ride separating us from said tempting biscuits and mince pies. Photo album will shortly be posted on Wye Valley Web Site flickr link.

Alan will kindly post event results. Just need to put finishing touches to my fancy dress costume for Wed night!!

Christmas fancy dress run

Next Wednesday will see our annual fancy dress run through Hereford.

Mike Shaw has kindly posted the details on the Facebook page but here are his words replicated for you pleasure!

The Wye Valley Runners panto season starts with the annual fancy dress run on Wed 19th Dec just 3 days before the club Xmas Party. Unfortunately I will not be able to perform my highly anticipated Jive & Swing demonstration because I've now got to stand in for Craig on strictly!!

The fancy dress run by popular request will involve the usual pilgrimage to Chippy's. As you know we've not been blessed with good weather for the last two years but I'm sure it will be third time lucky. There will be the usual covetted prize for best costume and to ensure there is no undue bias we have put Merv in charge of judging. If you come as a farm animal your sure to win!!!

Various festive club events

With Xmas approaching in double quick time there are several club events on the horizon:

  1. There will be a FUN festive Duathon for club members on December 16th. This is not a race more a club social get together to start the Xmas festivities so bring along Santa Hats, Mince Pies, Crackers etc.

The long range weather forecast for Sunday looks good and we are planning to start at 10am from the Rowing Club. The course will be run the Great Westen Way cycle path loop course 5 miles and then cycle the Breinton 10 mile course.

A number of you have asked whether it is possible for one of you to just run and handover to a partner who is cycling, the answer is yes. Also photos of our more glamorous members are permitted!!
We need one or two volunteers to look after the bikes during the run so if you can help it would be much appreciated

(Words stolen from Mike Shaw's Facebook post!)
  2. Christmas Eve - for the lucky folk who do not have to work that day - a last 2012 trot up to the Trig (subject to ice/floods). Meet at Rowing Club at 9.00 am. The wearing of Santa hats is encouraged.
  3. Sunday 30 December - The Wye Valley Runners traditional Marcle Ridge run (approx 10 miles off road). Meet Haugh Woods top car park at 9.00 am. Festive snacks will be available to all who sucessfuly complete the course.
  4. There will be a Muddy Woody practice Sunday run in January. Date to be confirmed.

Wye Valley Christmas Curry evening

Forget the running, forget New Year's Eve, the real event of the Xmas period will take place on Friday 28th December at 8pm.

Brian Symonds has once again arranged a club outting to the Taste Of Raj for a delicious indian meal. If you are interested in attending please put your name on the list which will be available at the Rowing Club from this week. However, due to the size of the restuarant it is recommended that you get your names down early to avoid disappointment.

There is also tell of continued drinking at the Barrels afterwards. Although I find this hard to believe as all our members are tea total, and dedicated to their training.
