Unfortunately only 2 Wye Valley runners ventured out to the Forest of Dean on Thursday which marked the last day of summer to participate in a beautiful course hosted by our friends at Forest of Dean AC.
The course is about 5 miles around the woodlands of Parkend. There are plenty of hills but all of which are runnable with some nice long flowing downhills with a few technical areas to practise your fancy footwork. The race is on hard pack fire trails and single patch footpaths but with a few patches of mud thrown in for good measure.
Very well organised event and better yet for your 8 pounds you get to start and finish at a pub and get a free beer token for your troubles. Unfortunately I was driving so had to pass up on a pint of Legless Cow to wash down the BBQ food, but hopefully next year we can persuade the chairman to drive out the new Wye Valley minibus so that we can take in the whole experience.
I managed to finish 5th in a time of 33:31, Peter Smith ran incredibly well who not only ran a great time of 57:28 but also won his age category.
