Midland Cross Country Championships 2012
On a bright and sunny, if somewhat chilly, afternoon in Nottinghamshire our intrepid teams took to the grounds of Wollaton Deer Park for the annual Midland Cross Country Championship. Lacking a Merv-type water hazard the course was reasonably firm under foot, and therefore a quick time was more than a possibility.
The women went off first undertaking 2 ½ laps of an undulating course. Against a strong field they competed very well with Tracey Wise leading them home with an approximate time of 39:00. Unfortunately a technical hiccup with the timing chip meant Tracey did not register at the finish. She was followed closely by Jan Edwards in a time of 39:44. Lucy Thomas followed closely behind (40:33) with Lyn Compton completing our line up in 42:22. Overall a very good day’s work from our ladies.
In the final race of the day four laps of the park awaited our male contingent and Stuart Moore was first through the finish with a time of 46:34. Alan Lewis (48:31) and Greg Wood (48:33) finished within 2 seconds of each other after enduring a hard fought race for the line, and Gavin Jones also ended the race strongly less than 30 seconds further back in a time of 48:58. Next home was Bousty (51:51) looking extremely comfortable in his stride. Rounding out a good team performance were Matt Taylor (52:21) and Malcolm Edwards (56:17) who both held off challenges to secure their finishing positions. A good day’s work also saw the men finish a creditable 28th in the team standings.

New Trophy for Muddy Woody 6
January 22, 2012
As you are all aware Jim Gray sadly passed away last year. Jim’s family have presented Wye Valley Runners with a Cup dedicated to the memory of Jim to be presented at the Muddy Wood 6. There is a picture of Alan Gray presenting the trophy to Les Chamberlain who accepted on behalf of Wye Valley Runners posted on www.flickr.com/photos/wyevalleyrunners
Jim was a keen supporter of the Muddy Woody 6 and for many years marshaled at the 5 mile mark.
At the request of the family they would like the Cup to be awarded on a similar basis to the Alex Moore 10k trophy. The Jim Gray Cup will therefore only be presented to members of Wye Valley Runners and will be rotated every other year between male and female runners. The age categories will vary so that the trophy will over time be presented to a broad selection of club members.
The committe will select the category for receipt of this years award on Monday 6th February.
Wye Valley Runners wish to thank the family of Jim Gray for this Cup which we believe will be a fitting tribute to Jim.
Alan Gray is planning to run the race and will present the trophy to this years winner.

Wye Valley Race Dates
January 21, 2012
Wye Valley Runners will hold a brand new 10 mile road race this year from the Hereford Rowing Club on Sunday 9th September. This is one of the classic road racing distances which has disappeared from the Herefordshire Racing Calendar
The Wye Valley Runners Summer 10k which is normally held in June will this year be run on Sunday May 20th. A large number of local races have already been scheduled for June so the May date avoids fixture congestion.
Gord’s 6 will be run on Saturday 30th June.
The date for this years Swansea Bay 10k is Sunday 23rd Sept.
