Wye Valley Summer League Review
August 20, 2011
The Summer Series was incredibly well supported given that the races start at 7.30pm on a Wednesday evening in the Summer months when there are lots of other distractions. There were 128 runners at Aconbury, an incredible 145 at Kinnersley, 118 at Westhope and 111 at Shobdon. Wye Valley Runners turned out 25 runners at Aconbury, 22 at Kinnersley, 17 at Westhope and 11 at Shobdon.
Many congratulations to Croft Ambrey RC for their team victory in the Summer series and to all the Wye Valley Runners that contributed our our 3rd place finish. The first three men and first lady count towards the team award and over the series John Pullen, Andrew Noble, Mike Fawcett, Scott Kennedy,Jim Hicks, Jon Barnes, Matt Ansfield , Becky Ansfield, Katherine King and Alex Champ contributed to our 3rd team success.
Once again their were some notable performances from individual club members with John Pullen yet again pulling out all the stops to finish 2nd overall you would think he would be slowing down at his age. What a performance from Andrew Noble who seems to be on fire this year, he finished in 3rd place overall in the men’s race at Shobdon and was first placed vet in the O/45 category for the series. Chistine Motteram retained the ladies veteran 65 title .
Wye Valley would like to thank all our runners who supported this series , whatever your ability your contribution to the club is much appreciated. It is great to see all those Wye Valley vests at the start line.
Can’t wait for the Winter Series.

Superb Performance from Jon Barnes at GB Team World Trials
August 18, 2011
Many congratulations to Jon Barnes who finished in a very creditable 5th position at the U/20 Great Britain team selection trials for the World Mountain running championships to be held in Timinia Albania next month. The race was hosted by Blackburn Harriers in Witton Park with a challenging course over 5.7 miles and a climb well over 1300ft. The top 4 finishers are automatically selected to represent Great Britain, Marc Scott of Richmond and Zetland Harriers finished in first position in a time of 36.51. Domonic Mahoney of Blackburn Harriers finished 4th in a time of 37.25 with Wye Valley’s Jon Barnes finishing an agonising 5 seconds behind with a time of 37.30. Jon ran the race of his life beating most of the GB team and all the Welsh team.
Jon will be 1st reserve for the GB team. Next year Jon will travel to the England training camps and hopes to be selected to represent the under 23 team at the World & European championships.
