Gord’s 6 Cheque Presentation

July 27, 2011

The Gord’s 6 is now a regular event on the running calendar and is held in memory of one of Wye Valley’s original founder members Gordon Clements.

Paul Bouston and Chris Mason have been the principal event organisers supported by race sponsors and landowners. Through their hard work supported by runners and many race marshals this years event raised £1400 including a contribution from Wye Valley Runners.

The selected charity for this years event is  ‘The Stroke Association’. A cheque to the value of £1400 was presented to Sophie , reprenting the Stroke Association, at the Hereford Rowing Club  on Wednesday evening July 27th.

Many thanks to all that supported and participated in this event.

Westhope Race Review

July 22, 2011

There were some good performances by WVR at Westhope with the men occupying 4 of the top 5 places. Jon Barnes won the men’s race with Mr Consistency John Pullen (3) followed by the rapidly improving Andrew Noble(4) & Matt Ansfield (5).  Bill Griffiths was breathing down my neck at the finish, there must be something in that ‘Just Flowers’ van the way he is running lately. Rocket Ralph gave us some pre race story that he had hardly run since Gord’s 6 and predictably disappeared into the distance at start time.It was  good to see Brian Symonds who is becoming a regular at  XC events these days.

Clara Evans of Hereford& County won the ladies race with Becci Ansfield  our first lady home. Conditions were not ideal for Becci she likes mud covered hills not rock hard clay so there is sure to be some payback in the Winter season. Christine Motteram also ran well but Jan Edwards was forced to retire at the end of the first lap and will make her comeback run at Shobdon. Lynne Compton could not attend because of some lame excuse that she was away on holiday but we know that courses lined with apple trees are not to her liking!!

A total of 17 runners turned out to represent Wye Valley at Westhope with 118 runners taking part in the event.

I will be travelling to Tenerife the day of the Shobdon XC and wish you all well for a successful race.

Mike
