Bluebells in Shobdon Woods
April 17, 2011
Why pound the streets of London when you can run a spectacular course closer to home…
Shobdon 6 is a challenging hill race which took place in sunshine today, with fabulous views and lovely bluebells.A cheerful group of Wye Valley runners were there with supporters and 2 dogs. Luke Mason finished second, John Pullen third and the rest were somewhere after that. Refreshments included doughnuts then home to watch the London Marathon highlights on TV.

Note: Your website editor is rather sensitive to reports that Les after a period of secret training is now in fine form and likely to provide a serious challenge in the coming months!!

Race 1 Report- 5K Series
April 15, 2011
It was good to see the 5k series return to Hereford , particularly for those who have a masochistic tendency for self inflicted pain of the sharp & short variety.
The first race was well organised and run in near perfect conditions. A big thank you to Hereford Couriers for organising same.
All the Wye Valley athletes seemed to enjoy the evening and were well supported by Les, Zak and Colin on route.
Well done to all particularly Luke Mason and Jonathan Barnes. Special mention to Paul Watts who broke his personal best by 20 seconds. Paul was guided around the course by Paul Bouston and I don’t know who looked the most tired at the end.
Lynn Compton must have beaten her personal best and was the sole Wye Valley lady representative. I am sure we’ll see a few more ladies out to keep Lynn company in the next two races on 19th May and 9th June.
Yours truly spent most of the race sufferring from the delusion that he was catching up with Rocket Ralph , must be the fencing on grandstand road that does it. Anyway he was nowhere to be seen on Holmer road and the sound of runners shoes closing rapidly behind meant I went into defensive mode for the rest of the race. Don’t you just hate it when you want a quiet run to the finish and someone keeps on your heels right to the finish line. I guess thats why we do it.
I’ll post a link to the race results when available
