John Pullen Makes Winning Breakthrough at Muddy Woody 6
The 15th Muddy Woody 6 was held on 13th February 2011 and the heavy rain and wind made for extremely testing running conditions for the 297 runners that successfully negotiated this demanding course. This Wye Valley Runners organised event is run in Haugh Wood near Mordiford, all off road through undulating forestry commission paths, tracks and trails. It is increasing in popularity since it’s very first running in February 1997 and is now one of the major races on the Herefordshire running calendar. The entry limit for this year’s race was reached in December 2010.
John Pullen of Wye Valley Runners achieved his ambition to win a local race after many second and third place finishes throughout the county. John completed the course in a good time of 42.27, almost a full minute ahead of Dave Wilby of Ilkley Harriers 43.22 with Eliot Taylor of Hereford Couriers putting in a creditable performance to finish third in a time of 43.34.
In the Ladies race Kim Mazzucca of Forest of Dean was first home in a time of 52.12, Jessica Barling Unattached was second in 52.42 and Nikki Hughes third in 53.15.
The men’s team award went to Wye Valley’s John Pullen, Stuart Moore and Chris Fletcher. The ladies team award went to Hereford Tri club’s Tricia Wright, Jo Crissal and Nicola Goodwin.
As in previous years the principal men’s and ladies trophies were made by Wye Valley club chairman Harry Franklin. Trophies were presented by Darren Williams representing principal race sponsor and club president Terry Court of Brightwells Auctioneers. Special thanks were extended to Dave and Sue Sherwood who have played a principal role in coordinating this race since it’s inception.
A collection was made for Wye Valley Runners charity of the year for 2011 St Michael’s Hospice and Katie Farmer Events and Community Fund Raising Manager St Michael’s Hospice also attended the race.

Race Feedback
Amanda Knox wrote;
‘A big thank you to everyone that organised such a fab event, have never ran a race in my life, and what a great one too start with.
Would love too see some photos if anyone took any.
Thanks again’
Rachel -(Hay Hotfooter) wrote:
‘Just a quick message to say I really enjoyed my first Muddy Woody. The course was testing enough, the marshals fantastic, and one of the best jam doughnuts ever (I’m a bit of a connoisseur which explains why I’m not terribly fast!). I can see why this race books up so quickly, and will hopefully be there again next year.
Many thanks for an excellent day’

‘Just a quick note to say thank-you for an excellent Muddy Woody today. I really
enjoyed it. Organisation fantastic, thanks to all the marshalls for standing there in the
rain. Club organised events such as these are a real pleasure to particpate in’.

‘Just that as it was my first muddy woody run yesterday I thought the support all around the course was brilliant especially at the top of the last hill. Wanted to say a big thank you to Michelle, thought she was brilliant & Jase for running in with me at the end’
