Training Run Review – Emily’s 12

January 30, 2011

Guess Who's Missing From This Photo

What a great turn-out for Emily’s 12 and a special thanks to Chippy for carrying all the group provisions on his bike.

The weather was perfect as we set off from the Cock of Tupsley and headed into Hereford before proceeding to Mordiford on the Hampton Park Road.

There were a few near misses early-on with Gail taking on a metal barrier, Jason a branch of bramble and Lynne (Jan’s sister) had a close call with a dog called Zak.

After a pit stop at Mordiford Bridge we headed through the church yard and turned left near the Checkley turn before turning right towards Longworth Hall and Bartestree. What a climb , goes on for a mile. Even our 210 marathon veteran Paul was struggling to reach the top. Les and Colin took a ‘jelly bean’ stop half way up. Not sure what this mean’t but they looked better for it!!

We then headed down the Whitestone Road, did a left along Blackhole Lane and another left towards Lugwardine before heading back to Tupsley.

It was a nice steady run completed by all in just under 2 hours.

The answer to the ‘guess who’s missing?’ caption may take some working out. Before you send your entries by postcard  saying it’s Chippy, this is the wrong answer, he was there and someone had to take the photo.

Not so easy is it? Okay the correct answer is Emily’s 12 had to renamed the Three E’s 12 which is an abbreviation for the ‘Everyone Except Emily 12′.

Unfortunately Emily’s still struggling to shake off an injury but doing plenty of swimming instead. We missed you Emily and everyone is sure you felt really guilty watching Andy Murray on the TV whilst drinking a nice warm cup of tea with two sugars while we all shivered our way around the course.

The good news is that we all enjoyed the run so much  a new group run is already in the planning phase. Watch the web site for details.

Get well soon Emily from all at Wye Valley Runners.

Muddy Woody Delights

January 16, 2011

For all you mud lovers there is good news, our advanced scouting party of about 20  Wye Valley Runners found more than enough to wet the appetite of the most mud thirsty athlete..
The scouting party met at 9am on Sunday 16th January and split into three smaller groups to sample the delights of the course. There were some first timers and although they came back a little leg weary and in urgent need of a water canon they still managed to enjoy themselves. The regulars also found it useful because there have been some changes to the course.
There’s now just 4 weeks to the big day, can’t wait !!.
