Boxing Day (Jack Frost) Forage
December 26, 2010
It must have been the coldest Christmas Forage on record , but by 10am it had warmed up to a staggering -11C.
Dave had spent several hours the day before compiling the questions and decided there should be two teams. Because the questions covered areas North and South of the river the teams split into sub teams in order to save time. John Pullen and I volunteered for the North West quadrant . John disappeared up Westfaling street and I looked for clues along Whitecross Road. About 15 mins later with frostbitten hands and toes I finally found out who served breakfast at £4.50 a head. Trouble was I couldn’t get the sheet of paper out of the plastic bag to write it down and I was getting strange looks from passers by.
John Pullen appeared just as I got half way up Whitecross Road. ‘ I’ll cover Three Elms Road, see if you can find the picture of Frank Lampard’ he said just before crossing the road.
So I headed for Grandstand Road and up to the top of Holmer Road then along Roman Road. Toes getting colder and having difficulty looking for clues slightly preoccupied by all the ice and snow.
Decided to call it a day, headed back down Whitecross Road, another look for Frank Lampard’s picture but couldn’t find it and finally got back to the Rowing Club car park and a well earned warm shower.
Thanks to Dave Sherwood for all his hard work in organising . After all that effort both teams ended up with the same amount of points so Sue presented us all with a chocolate egg for our efforts.
If you feel inspired join us for our training run in Credenhill Woods at 10am tomorrow. See web site for training run details.

And don’t forget our first event for 2011 ………

We will be monitoring the weather with the hope that the course will be passed fit. Keep an eye on the website for updates.
We still need marshals and other helpers so please come along to help make the race a success.
Bibus Metals Top Cool Winter Training Shirts
December 23, 2010
Bibus Metals Germany have very kindly donated a number of Ladies and Men’s Top Cool James & Nicholson long sleeved running shirts to Wye Valley Runners. Ladies sizes are medium and large and men’s are large and extra large although actual fittings are slightly smaller than UK sizes. The shirts are ideal for training in the Winter months or for casual wear.
Dave and Claire are the first club members to try on the new tops and were very pleased with the quality and design. Claire particularly liked the colour scheme on the Ladies shirts.
On the back of the training shirts is printed ‘www.wyevalleyrunners.co.uk sponsored by Bibus Metals’.
Please be aware that stocks are limited and not all club members can have one. The training shirts will therefore be distributed at the discretion of the committee. We will try to distribute the training shirts prior to the New Year’s Day 10K as it would be nice to have club members wearing them at race registration and during the prize giving to maximise exposure..
Wye Valley would like to thank Berthold Schwarz of Bibus Metals for his very generous and kind donation.

Fancy Dress Run 2010
December 23, 2010
Unfortunately for the second year running the weather severely restricted the turn-out for this event but a few hardy souls still made an appearance in the icy conditions with the temperature well below freezing .
This year the theme was Tarts and Vicars although Santa also turned up to keep an eye on proceedings giving his reindeers the night off in preparation for the big day. For some reason Santa seemed to prefer the Tarts to the Vicars and the fancy dress prize winners this year were Scott and Ralph.
There was no female award this year because Kirsty the only female participant decided not to join the run around the town on the grounds that she might freeze to death. So she was disqualified on the basis that she preferred the warmth of the rowing club bar.
