Felicity Cole ran the Windemere marathon

May 18, 2010

The Brathay Windemere marathon was probably the hardest thing Ive ever done –
but it was something quite special, an undulating run around lake windemere. The
event is tiny – about 1000 runners- but the atmosphere is something else. We
were marched to the start by a drumming band and the finish line had the most
fantastic view of the lake. The scenery was fantastic , (the first 9 miles being
traffic free)- as were the marshalls and crowds…but of those hills were
something else. It was really tough going. For those left behind there was
plenty to do – from canoeing, zip wires, ropes and climbing..with the event
being organised by a charity working for disadvanteged children – which all made
it kind of special…
Oh and the time…a hard earned…3.57…

Felicity

Wye Valley Runners Club Badge Design Competition

May 10, 2010

Wye Valley Runners Club Badge Design Competition
Wye Valley Runners need a new club badge! We’ve recently been given a grant for some flashy feather banners and need a smart club badge to catch everyone’s eye. The design could also be used on club clothing, the website, car stickers, entry forms – the possibilities are endless!
The design needs to be fairly simple and limited to just a few colours, so it can be easily reproduced in print or embroidery. Think about what Wye Valley Runners means to you; what could sum it up in a nice neat design? Entries, whether rough sketch ideas, or finished masterpieces, should be handed to a committee member by the next club meeting on June 14th.
If anyone knows a good graphic artist who could make these ideas really come to life, please let us know too.

Victory for Wye Valley!

May 10, 2010

Wye Valley Runners’ senior mens ‘A’ team won the Herefordshire Cross Country Relay Championships at Westhope last Wednesday evening. Luke Mason, Jim Hicks, Scott Kennedy and Jon Barnes put in a fantastic performance and set a new course record of 42:48, well clear of second place Croft Ambrey ‘A’, last year’s winners. Jon won an extra medal for the fastest lap of the undulating 1.75 mile course – 10:14, two seconds ahead of Luke and only four seconds off the course record.
Well done to Paul Bouston, Mike Cole, Steve Turner and Stuart Moore for representing the club too, finishing fifth senior mens team. Turnout was generally quite low for this great team event, and several categories were contested by just one team – it’d be great to see more WVR faces there next year.
