How did you join WVR?
I was introduced in 2004 by a club member Chris Lea. Chris was my manager at work,
I wanted to get fit and he became my mentor, helping me to do my first Hereford Half Marathon in the same year. 1hr 58 mins.
How long have you been a member of WVR?
I joined in 2004, so I am almost starting my sixth year.
What is your favourite training run?
“The Trig” is my favourite training run, as it is a good workout and a mixture of all terrains.
What is your favourite race and why?
My favourite race, has always been The Snowdon Marathon, purely because of the scenery, and the fact that it is very low key makes it feel more special.
My favourite club race is The Muddy Woody, it is always a fantastic day, lives up to its name. The committee and club members put so much effort into all our races, this one just stands out as the Clubs Event to me.
What is your favourite terrain, road runs or off road?
Off road every time! It gives you more of a sense of freedom, (road runs remind me of cold dark nights). And an extra bit of a hard work is always needed off road.
What is your PB?
5K = 19 mins
10K = 40 mins
½ Marathon 1hr 31 mins
Marathon 3hr 39 mins
Muddy Woody 56 mins
How do you prepare for a race?
To prepare for a race I just eat more carbs (and cakes) a few days before, and try to train a little easier for a few day’s before.
Who do you like training with?
I like to run with anyone down the club on training nights, I enjoy meeting new people, that’s always nice.
Who or what is your running inspiration?
My inspiration for life would be Lance Armstrong, running is a part of my life, anyone who has any idea what this guy has been through, will understand what I mean, amazing guy.
Tell our readers something they probably don’t know about you!
I am a happily married father of three children, who (in my eyes) manages to pull off a good family, work, training / lifestyle balance. I love everything Wye Valley, and hope to be part of the club for many years to come. I wear size 9.5 trainers and I love Guinness.
